Privacy notice

This notice explains how [Promoter legal name] (Pty) Ltd ("we") handles your personal information when you enter the Babalas Rescue Your Summer competition, in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Who is responsible

[Promoter legal name] (Pty) Ltd is the responsible party. [Agency legal name] runs the entry platform for us as an operator, under a written agreement. Contact: hello@babalasrescue.co.za.

What we collect

• Your mobile number and WhatsApp profile name, and your name and email address if you give them (on the web entry form, or when you claim a prize).
• Photos of your till slips (which show the store, date, items bought and sometimes partial card details).
• Your messages to our WhatsApp number and our replies.
• Your confirmation that you are 18+ and accept the rules, and your marketing choice.
• Technical data such as a one-way (hashed) version of your IP address and which QR code you scanned.

Why we use it

• To run the competition: check entries, prevent fraud and duplicate entries, draw and contact winners, and deliver prizes.
• To keep the records the Consumer Protection Act requires for promotional competitions.
• To send you Babalas promotions, only if you opted in. Reply STOP on WhatsApp or email us to opt out at any time.

Who we share it with

• Meta Platforms (WhatsApp), which carries the messages you send us.
• Anthropic, whose AI model reads till slip photos that our own text-recognition software can't read clearly or confirm. It acts on our instructions and does not use the slips to train its models.
• Our hosting and storage providers, and the independent person who oversees the draw.
• Couriers, for delivering prizes to winners.

Some of these providers process information outside South Africa (for example in the USA or EU). We only use providers bound by laws, binding agreements or rules that give protection substantially similar to POPIA.

How long we keep it

Competition records are kept for 3 years after the competition ends, then deleted. Marketing details are kept until you opt out.

Your rights

You may ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, or object to how we use it, by emailing hello@babalasrescue.co.za (see how to delete your data). Deleting your information before the draw withdraws your entries. If you are unhappy with our response you may complain to the Information Regulator (inforeg.org.za).
